Class 2 serves as the student’s second year into their full-fledged study. In this class, students are taught basic subjects like maths, English, EVS, general knowledge, art and craft, and physical education. After getting introduced to these subjects in their class 1 students are led into this phase which contains the same subjects with the next level or comparatively advanced concepts. As this is the starting stage of a student’s primary level, guidance from teachers and students plays an integral role.

Out of all the subjects, English, in particular, is an important part as this serves as the base for understanding all other subjects. The main objective of this subject is to improve the literary skills of the students, improve their communication in a foreign language and thereby make them blend into the society with confidence and comfort. NCERT books in particular are published by the Government of India to fulfill these goals excellently. Hence, this article in detail deals with points on how to study the NCERT books for class 2 effectively.

  • NCERT books are specifically written for students to deliver quality content and at the same time understand their lessons easily without any complexity. The NCERT book’s easy and complex to simple method makes them one of the most sought-after study materials for students of class 2. As students are in their initial stage of learning this subject, going through the NCERT book for class 2 English will help them through their learning process.
  • Class 2 English has two textbooks, marigold and raindrops both inclined towards teaching the students fundamentals of this subject through stories, poems, and passages.
  • Certain skills are necessary for learning English like listening, reading, writing, and speaking. Getting to know each of these skills and practicing them time and again can help the students excel in this subject. The above-mentioned skills can be achieved by promptly doing all the NCERT book activities given to the students.
  • When stories and passages are being taught students are advised to follow what the teacher says line by line to understand what the word means and how they are spelled. Teachers are also instructed to make the story teaching time more innovative and interactive for students to have a grab on their concentration successfully.
  • When poems are being taught in the class, they can be given a rhythmic recitation for the students to learn and memorize them well. The poems in the NCERT textbook are designed to be interactive and fun-filled, as students can participate in various classroom activities while learning the poem.
  • Students are advised to go home and read once the content is taught in the class. Making the students do this homework will let them recall the teachings again and also make them remember the vocabulary better.
  • The class 2 NCERT English also contains chapters with small essays describing the basic setup around or the things the kids witness in their day-to-day life. The essays can be studied effectively by doing the book exercises given in the book which contains questions from the studied essay. Listening and writing skill plays an important role here as students are supposed to listen to the teaching effectively to understand what is present in the essay. After understanding the essay thoroughly, they can attempt the questions using their writing skills.
  • The textbooks not just educate the students about the language but also the basic information present in the passages, essays, etc. For example, unit 2 – our day explains about the earth and other simple heavenly bodies, hence a visual explanation to the students on what all these means will enable them to understand the passage effectively, read them with much interest, and thereby develop their literary skills also.
  • The textbook also gives out content on the day-to-day things that students come around in their lives. For example, unit 3- My family deals with a boy introducing his family members to the readers and making the students learn them through illustrations and real-life examples will simplify their content and enable them to read intently.
  • As the lessons in the textbook contain many vocabularies which may seem foreign to the students, giving them a spelling practice more often will aid them in remembering and fathoming the words better.
  • Certain units in the textbook present the students with exercises in which they will have to finish up the incomplete conversations and frame small sentences. To finish up these exercises’ students can be made to observe how conversations are made in the textbooks or through educational videos. Then, they can be asked to converse with their classmates to improve their communication and sentence framing skills.
  • Units 8 and 9 deal with the various types of works done by the people for their living. As the saying goes ‘education is not to be confined only within the four walls of the classroom”, students can be made to study and memorize the various types of occupations by field study. Also, whenever the parents take their child out, the child comes in contact with people of various occupations asking the children to identify the occupation of the people they encounter will help them study the lessons better.
  • Unit 11 which deals with the various festivals celebrated across the country can be studied if the students are given a visual explanation of various happenings that take part during each festive season and how each religion celebrates its festival.
  • Unit 4 deals with the numerous numbers of colours that students encounter in their everyday lives in the form of a poem. This unit can be made easy by constantly asking them to name the colours around them with their spellings.

Several points on how to study the NCERT books for class 2 have been presented. As students from class 2 will be of the age of 7-8 they can be taught and made to study the chapters through interactive and fun-filled learning
