Business is All About Utilizing Time and Processes
There are many factors that contribute to a business’ success and it would take a long time to list them all here, however I would like to focus on two unsung heroes: the utilization of time and processes. These two areas need to be addressed in a lot of businesses and although I doubt a company will be broken if they don’t use their time wisely, it might be manifest itself in a lack of profits. Clean up your time and processes and you might see an increase in profit.
See below for some things to look out for.
The webcam can be a great asset to your business. If you are a company that has dealings with other offices around the country or even around the world, then chances are you have to do a lot of traveling. Traveling costs a lot of money and whilst you are doing it you can’t get much work done. With a webcam you can have a morning meeting with an office in Dakota, at lunch have one with someone in London, and in the afternoon have a meeting with Bangalore. Webcams are becoming extremely popular for web meetings. It saves a lot of money and frees up hours of your time for more important work than sitting in a plane or train …. or even an automobile.
Paper and ink are expensive in the long run and they take up room and they have to be filed and found again when needed … it goes on. Using paper wastes time in today’s world, especially when it is just as easy to have digital documentation. Take all of your current paper documents, and any new ones you get and send them to a company like Scantronix that specializes in document scanning. These companies will scan your documents and send them to you so that you can store then all digitally. It saves space, time, and money. Win, win … win.
This may sound harsh but some of your employees may be useless. Most offices will have a young admin support type of employee that handles the simple boring spreadsheet/paperwork stuff. What I would suggest is getting rid of him/her and spreading their workload over everyone else so that everyone gets a little extra to do. This way you will be saving money and your processes will have been tidied up somewhat. Always look for was that you can trim the fat with your office workers.
It’s Up to You
All businesses are different and so you need to take a long, hard look at your own business and see where you can improve things. Letting things run as they are may be working well for you but you have to ask yourself, are we running at optimum levels? Are there ways in which we can improve? I’ve given you three examples of ways in which you can save time and improve processes; it is not up to you to do the rest. Time for a spring clean.
