Here’s What You Can Become by Practicing 2 Hours a Day
How many times have you decided to start a new hobby or project only to put it on your to-do list? Most of the time, it seems more convenient to spend time doing an activity that is easily available, like gaming. But within the same time, there are a lot of other things that can be done.
A study conducted by research firm Bidvine reveals surprising facts about the human capacity for learning. According to the study, gamers who typically spend two hours each day on video games, can use that time to learn a new skill. The researchers interviewed professionals from different fields including fitness trainers, language teachers and performing arts instructors to determine the amount of time required to master a specific skill. The results were truly eye-opening.
Taking out just two hours of a day for six months is sufficient to learn to speak French. That’s not all. By spending two hours a day for twelve weeks, you can become a decent guitar player. To become a marathon runner, you need to practice two hours a day for 10 weeks whereas 2 hours daily practice for four weeks will help you acquire some amazing salsa moves. In fact, if you’ve been putting off your bathroom remodelling project, here’s a bit of perspective. Give the job two hours a day and your remodelling will be complete in just seven weeks.
So, who took part in the survey? Bidvine researchers asked 2,000 people out of whom all had played video games at least once and 55% identified as ‘gamers’ how much time they spent playing video games. Of the gamers, men constituted 65% and women 34%. While the average came to 2 hours a day, almost 35% reported playing video games for five hours or more a day.
Coming to gaming devices, consoles emerged as the most widely used tool popular with 45% of players. This was followed by PCs at 31% and smartphone apps at 19%. The purpose of the study is not to put gamers on the spot or to embarrass them, but to offer insight into what could be achieved by investing the same amount of effort and time in alternative activities. It is hoped that the findings of this study will inspire people to push their boundaries and pursue a new challenge diligently. The results might even be surprising to the most committed gamers and procrastinators.
