Which 2017 Mobile Technology Predictions Dominated the Market
The world of mobile phone technologies is dynamic, ever-changing and can sometimes feel as though it is very hard to keep up with! There were many predictions made in 2017 for the mobile phone market, so take a look below so you can see which ones made the cut and were correct.
Did 5G Technology Fare Well in 2017?
One of the biggest predictions in 2017 was that we would see a rise in 5G technology within the mobile phone industry. It was thought that firstly IoT applications would be targeted before moving on to some consumer devices. However, while it was shown that 103 operators in 49 countries are financing 5G technology, this was not rolled out around the world. It does look like it will continue to make an impact, however, as thirty-two operators have made public commitments to roll out 5G in twenty-three countries in the near future. This will be a huge step for the mobile technology industry as 4G was released ten years ago!
Did Apple Live up to the Hype in 2017?
Apple always has some of the most hotly anticipated products of the year and 2017 was no different. It was predicted they would launch a new iPhone 8 and iOS 11. It was also predicted they would gain the market share but wouldn’t dominate Android. In reality, Apple did launch both of these products in 201 and have come a long way since launching their very first iPhone in 2007 as you can see below in this history of mobile phones infographic. However, Android still dominates the market with an 80% to 85% share.

Two-factor authentication as predicted to be the dominant security mechanism in 2017, particularly with increased account breach reports. This was shown to be a correct prediction for 2017 as SMS OTP for mobile was second only to using passwords.
But what will change for mobile technology in 2018? I suppose we’ll just have to wait and see!
