Memory is a crucial component of all human behaviour. “Memory is the storing and retrieval of things learned previously,” Morgan et al (1979) write.

If you didn’t have memory, you wouldn’t be able to remember the past, retain new information, solve issues, or plan for the future. Memory is an important aspect of establishing a solid foundation for learning. A good memory can help you perform better and earn higher grades on school tests, final examinations, and other extracurricular activities.

Muscle strength and memory strength are related. Learning a new skill and figuring out how to increase memory and focus are both wonderful ways to strengthen your brain’s memory capacity.

You can pick up a new instrument, such as the piano, ukulele, guitar, or drums. Play cognitive games such as Sudoku or Chess.

Studying takes time and effort, so make a study routine that you can keep to. Set aside time for studying and don’t get sidetracked by the temptation to talk to friends or watch TV. If you study diligently during your planned study period, you will find that you will have plenty of time later to spend with your friends and watch television. Also, stay orderly; a well-organized person has an easier time remembering things. Make a checklist and cross off items as they are finished to assist you in attaining your short and long-term objectives. If you’re attempting to figure out how to boost memory, this is another easy yet powerful method.

Exercising or working out on a daily basis not only keeps you fit and healthy, but also boosts your brain capacity, which can help you figure out how to improve memory and focus. Physical activity enhances oxygen supply to the brain and lowers stress hormone activity. It also improves nutrient supply to the body and lowers the risk of memory-related problems. Choose workouts that will get your blood pumping, such as exercise that is aerobic in nature, Physical activities that require hand-eye coordination or complicated motor skills, every day, walking for 15 minutes (can create new cells in the brain which are essential for memory storage)

For information to go from short-term memory to long-term memory, you must actively attend to it. If you’re easily sidetracked, go somewhere quiet where you won’t be disturbed.

For instance, try to study in an environment free of distractions such as people, music, television, and so on. This could be an excellent option for pupils who are trying to figure out how to boost their memory.

The human brain, like your body, need fuel and energy. Instead of junk food, I prefer to eat cooked meals. Consume a plant-based diet rich in green leafy vegetables, fruits and berries, whole grains, and omega-3 fatty acids such as cashew nuts and salmon. Sugar, processed foods, fatty fried foods, red meat, cheese, and other processed foods should be avoided. A balanced diet can help you improve your memory while also lowering your chances of disease and body fat.

The deadliest enemy of a human being is stress. When you’re stressed, your body releases stress hormones like cortisol, which inhibits the memory process in the brain, particularly retrieval capacity. The most essential component that influences brain chemicals and helps to reduce stress hormones is exercise. This is one of the most straightforward yet effective methods for improving memory and focus.

The importance of sleep for general brain health cannot be overstated. Every day, try to get up at the same time and go to bed at the same time. On weekends, try not to disrupt your sleep pattern or regimen. For people who want to learn how to strengthen their memory. They must keep in mind that getting enough sleep, which is usually around 7-8 hours per night, allows the brain to form and store memories for a longer period of time. Allow your brain to relax and unwind by avoiding bright screens (laptop, computer, phone) about an hour before night.

If you repeat what you’ve learned, you’re more likely to remember it. Repetition aids in the reinforcement of the connections formed between neurons. You can put yourself to the test by retrieving the material, which is far superior to studying repeatedly. This will undoubtedly assist you in determining how to boost memory and focus.

Consider the following scenario: Make a list of sentences, read them out, and repeat. Reread what you just learned and make a mental note of the headings. Ask yourself what’s beneath each heading to get a sense of what’s there.

Mnemonics are tricks for remembering things. They’re memory aids that relate the information you want to remember to a visual image, a sentence, or a word. Visual Imagery- Information coupled with realistic mental imagery is simpler to remember. When you see a white “Nehru Cap,” for example, you immediately think of Jawahar Lal Nehru, India’s first Prime Minister.

Chunking is the process of breaking down a big list of data or figures into smaller, more manageable pieces. A 10-digit phone number, for example, will be much easier to remember if it is broken down into three different pieces (e.g. 312- 517 – 8842) rather than one long number (3125178842).

Don’t rely on just one sense to help you remember things; use as many as you can. Make an effort to link information to colours, smells, sensations, and tastes.

If you’re a visual learner, for example, hold a book in your hand and read aloud what you want to remember (you can even recite it rhythmically) before attempting to recall the information later that night.

These days, we rely largely on popular search engines or our gadgets, which has sadly resulted in us becoming “mentally sluggish.” If you need to calculate, you’d go straight to your phone’s calculator, and if you needed information, you’d go to our “Google Baba.” Make the first attempt to get the information using your head before reaching for your phone to ask Siri or Google.
