What is Shatter?
Before moving on to know how to turn shatter into oil, let’s take an in-depth look into the background of and what it is, exactly.
To begin with, concentrate vaping has gained popularity ever since the laws pertaining to medical marijuana became flexible; some states in the US have allowed patients to seek marijuana legally. This has stimulated the use of concentrates, also known as dabs. A dab is defined as a small portion of anything; in this context, it is used in instances such as dab vaping.
Concentrates/dabs are stronger than dry herb vaporizers since they include the use of more active ingredients filled in a smaller volume for vaping; this intensifies their effect. This pays off for medical marijuana users who need to intake higher quantities as directed by their doctors. It’s also much better for recreational users.
Usually, there are four major types of dabs, each differing in consistency, flavor, potency, and effectiveness. These can be classified as shatter, crumble, budder, and wax.
Shatter is the most potent type of dab/concentrate, with purity levels up to eighty percent. Its appearance is glass-like; it disrupts into bits if not handled cautiously. Since shatter is solid, it can be handled easily. The process is to separate a little bit of the shatter and locate it into an atomizer or a heating chamber of the concentrate vaping pen. This ought to be enough.
Shatter is one of the very hardest forms of Butane hash oil. It contains 80-90% of THC, which is the chemical that causes psychological effects on the human brain. Hence, you can feel the impact of shatter oil much more promptly. It can last longer as compared to the other concentrates.
How to Consume Shatter?
Like all other forms of butane hash oil, you can inhale shatter by heating it. Heating activates the thc vape juice of the cannabis, and then you can inhale its smoke. On the other hand, consuming unheated shatter is a bad idea as the THC is not activated; this is likely to produce adverse effects.
You can intake shatter in a plethora of ways. You can add the small pieces of shatter into the blunt, joint, bong, hash pipe, but these ways can lead to the undesirable effects of smoke, tar, and resin residue. However, placing shatter onto vape is like inhaling the purest forms of the shatter.
The only downside to it is that it is difficult to use since you need to turn to shatter into the oil first to put it into the vape. However, fret not. Mentioned below are the steps to turn shatter into oil so that it can be used in vape.
To begin with, you need to collect a few components that will be used in further steps. These are mentioned below
- 1 ml syringe
- 10ml syringe
- 16 gauge blunt tip needle
- A hot plate which can provide heat of up to 140 degrees Celsius or 280 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Terpenes liquid bottle to dilute the concentrate
- Glass beaker
- Concentrate (Shatter)
The first step is to measure the amount of concentrate so that you can fill in the right amount of terpene. Mentioned below are the steps to make oil from 1 gram of shatter.
Step 1: Preheat your hot plate at 140 degrees and place the beaker on the hot plate. Allow your shatter to melt. When the concentrate (shatter) is fully melted, turn off the heat.
Step 2: The next step is to add terpene into your concentrate. Start by measuring out a 5 to 10 percent ratio of concentrate to terpene. So for 1 ml of concentrate, you need 0.1 ml of a terpene; measure it using the 1 ml syringe.
Step 3: Take it off the heat and then allow it to cool down for about 1 to 2 minutes. Allow the oil to cool and test the viscosity by shifting your beaker; if the mixture is not flowing at all or even flowing very slowly, place it back on the hot plate and add more terpene.
Step 4: Once it flows freely as you tilt the beaker to an angle, you can use your 10ml syringe to place it in the vape pipe.
Benefits of Shatter
The benefits of vaping or the intake of shatter are both numerous and quite noticeable. Other than isolates, shatter is the only highly potent cannabis product with cannabinoid concentrations of up to 90%. However, shatter is placed above the other concentrates since it contains numerous cannabinoids, vital plant chemicals, as well as terpenes. Some of the gains of using shatter over other cannabis products are:
- You can easily vape, dab, or add quantities of shatter in your joint.
- The quantity of shatter requirement for an optimal effect is much lesser than other cannabis products.
- It is highly potent; you feel the effects of shatter within seconds.
- It offers more cannabinoids and phytochemicals than CBD and THC isolates.
- High-quality shatter is both safe and useful for delivering the medical benefits of cannabis.
